Welcome to Sutton Writers Circle
Whether you are a budding Shakespeare or Charles Dickens or want to follow in the footsteps of Agatha Christie or Barbara Cartland, whatever your aspirations, you will be warmly welcomed.
You don't have to go it alone. Our strong membership comprises both published and unpublished writers of diverse talents offering support and friendship with local monthly meetings, workshops and the chance to enter club competitions.
We have a mix of competitions which include drama, articles, short stories, monologues and short stories for children but the highlight of the year is the President's Prize competition for the best short story. Our President, Tilly Armstrong, who was one of Sutton's most successful romantic novelist and a Chairman of the Romantic Novelists Association, is sadly no longer with us. However, in honour of her memory, the President's prize will continue and will be judged each year by the previous year's winner. There is a cash prize and the first prize winner will have their name added to the winners' shield.
Sutton Writers recently linked up with Time & Leisure Magazine and the Sutton Branch of Waterstones to launch a short story competition using just 500 words. We are pleased that this proved to be a very successful venture with some nineteen entries, judged by staff at Waterstones. The first prize was won by Jeremy Golding and as well as books from Waterstones, Jeremy has won free membership to Sutton Writers for the next year. We hope he will enjoy the benefits of belonging to our group.
