Welcome to Sutton Writers Circle
Whether you are a budding Shakespeare or Charles Dickens or want to follow in the footsteps of Agatha Christie or Barbara Cartland, whatever your aspirations, you will be warmly welcomed.
You don't have to go it alone. Our strong membership comprises both published and unpublished writers of diverse talents offering support and friendship with local monthly meetings, workshops and the chance to enter club competitions.
We have a mix of competitions which include drama, articles, short stories, monologues and short stories for children but the highlight of the year is the President's Prize competition for the best short story. Sadly, our President, Tilly Armstrong, who has been Sutton's most successful romantic novelist and a Chairman of the Romantic Novelists Association, has recently passed away and will be sadly missed. However, in honour of her memory, the President's prize will continue and will be judged each year by the previous year's winner who as well as a cash prize will have their name added to the winners' shield.
Our big Poetry Competition in July 2009, sponsored by Sutton Arts Council, was open to anyone over 16 living, studying or working in Sutton. The theme was "Suburban Life" and the main winners were Dominic Newman, Margaret Shelley, Norman Smith and Tilly Armstrong.
